The Hyperion

I have to admit. I love my books. I like reading and collecting them. But it’s a pleasure I keep in check. I do however harbor one love that approaches a fetish. That is boats. Not sure why and let’s not get all Freud on me, let’s just move on to the goodness that are boats and yachts.

I realize how expensive it is to own a boat. Even the small 19′ bow riding ski boat will run you $8,000 a year in maintenance, if you really use it. Then there are the ones mentioned in this month’s Fortune magazine. They are beautiful. And I have to admit to laughing out loud when I read this quote, from a boat-owner interviewed for the article:

Owning a sailboat is like sitting in a shower, ripping up hundred-dollar bills.

I guess that’s true, but it’s not enough to extinguish my wanting to join some of the “boat sharing” programs/clubs mentioned in the article. Even if I don’t live anywhere near either major coastal city.

And it sure enough isn’t enough to keep me from linking to the gallery of yacht porn Fortune put together for us. And I’m also linking to a collection of pics posted on Flickr of the Hyperion, which was built for one of the founders of Netscape and has some cool shots of the custom programmed touch screen controls for navigation. Too fun!

For many reasons I don’t need to list out here. The bedroom is one of the most important areas in a man’s life. The days of couch crashing and sleeping bag surfing are over. You need a place where you can focus. That means simple. Very simple. It allows you and yours to relax, recharge and concentrate on whatever.

So toss the posters and grab the can of dark neutral paint. That’s one thing we can do. And then think simple. The cool folks over at Freshome have got it figured out, as you can tell from this pick and the accompanying post.

Ok. So Megan Fox is one that snuck up on us a couple of years ago. I have to admit, that when I went in to see the first Transformers movie, I was looking to gorge on the best digital special effects that Hollywood could afford. I got some of that. But by the end of the movie I was wanting to gorge on something else. That didn’t involve robots and is 100% analog. Fox hasn’t left the limelight since that movie and is even in the new one (which I haven’t seen yet). Though if the rumors are true, Michael Bay may have even more footage squirreled away.

So here’s to Megan Fox on this hot sweaty summer Friday afternoon. May the pics, interviews and magazine covers keep on flowing.

Casual Beauty

I mean that’s pretty cool. They say the inspiration comes from the gearshift of a car. It certainly has all the lines of a fine cruising automobile. So I ask you, does this work for you? Would you be proud to show this off in your bathroom as your guest goes to powder her nose or would you be a tad embarassed and fear she might liken it to all the football jeresy you have wall mounted in the basement.

There is only one way to tell. I have to have one to test. So, hello folks at snazzy design studio. If you’re reading this, please send me a review model of your fancy new faucet. I’d like to give it a spin. I promise to report back all of the good and bad that chicks say about it. And I promise no marketing campaign in the world could sell as many faucets as you guys saying “Buy our stuff, it’s so good it got some poor blogger dude laid”. Seriously. That’s money in the bank.

It rings up under $300 and comes with a bluetooth headset, but it’s only available in Europe right now. Maybe Santa will bring it over stateside for Christmas.

Two years ago Conde Nast launched an ambitious glossy project called Portfolio. It was a magazine that aimed at toppling the likes of Fortune and Forbes. But after burning through a record $100 million launch and 21-issues, they are shutting down. Apparently, now that everyone has figured out that 401(k)’s are a joke, that GM is bankrupt and there are leaks in all the hedge funds, no one wants to read about the people that made (or didn’t make, depending on your point of view) happen.

It’s a shame really. I happened to enjoy the magazine. It presented many of the same faces and stories and even the same conclusions as some of the more prominent (and less expensive to run) magazines. But Portfolio seemed to be less stuffy and cleaner. They just needed to be leaner.

Seriously folks, this is damn near perfection.

I am going to kick of DailyZenith’s chronicling of all the beautiful women out there with a true classic, Cameron Diaz. I don’t mean classic in that old kinda way, I mean the classic “best gal a guy could ever have” kinda way. I read all about her bringing the beer to movie sets and challenging friends to belching contests, but the best part is that she seems fun! I mean a true no stress relationship kinda chick. Mix that with a killer California surfer chick body and well, what’s not to like?

I have never wanted to be a sofa cushion more than this.

But that’s not what the owners of the bar that inspired Cheers are saying. In fact, times are so tough for them that they have laid off, Eddie Doyle (a bartender for 35 years), the man who inspired Ted Danson’s Sam Malone character. This just isn’t right. Tonight I lift my pint to you Eddie Doyle.
