Is it the end times?
I always had faith in one thing… that no matter what… the fellas would go out for a beer. Seriously. When times are good we toast with frosty beverages. When times are bad we drown our sorrows in cheap swill and the edge comes off a little. I thought that no matter what, the drink would always flow.
But that’s not what the owners of the bar that inspired Cheers are saying. In fact, times are so tough for them that they have laid off, Eddie Doyle (a bartender for 35 years), the man who inspired Ted Danson’s Sam Malone character. This just isn’t right. Tonight I lift my pint to you Eddie Doyle.
